Default Coverage in UP of MI.

I am looking to upgrade my phone and was looking at getting a Q. The only problem is I am going to college at Michigan Technological University, which is in Houghton MI (In the upper penninsula). I am not very familiar with the alltel coverage. I know I can get phone reception up there, but I was wondering if I could get a data connection. If I could would the speed be so slow it would not be worth it? Any input is appreciated. Thanks

if you can get a phone connection you can get a data connection. your best bet would be to go to the alltel site or call a CSR and see if they provide EvDO in that area (that is the fastest speed for data available) and if so then your good to go...

I would say Alltel will be your best bet for Michigan, especially the UP. If you look at the other thread in the forum about Alltel's MOL3 and EVDO updates it says Alltel is supposedly rolling out a wider coverage area for EVDO, so even if you only have 1x while at school it's possible you'll get EVDO later.

It also depends on what you want the data for. If your Q to alert you about new e-mail on your Gmail account (or whatever), 1x would be fine. Your signal strength also comes into question as well.

I know I switch to 1x in and around Ludington and Muskegon, but my Q hasn't ventured further north with me, yet.
