Heading under? What makes you say that? I would say the opposite.

Alltel has rapidly been expanding EvDO coverage. They also have a roaming contract with Sprint so Alltel customers can roam Sprint's EvDO network and Sprint users can roam Alltel's network. So between the two you have a highspeed network much much larger then VZW or ATT.

There has also been discussion about Alltel bidding on the 70MHz of UHF that will be freed up with the move to HDTV in 09.

I haven't heard anything that indicates Alltel is going under. I am curious if there is some news out there that I missed.

Alltel is not going anywhere. I used to be on their network. An Alltel phone will roam onto a VZW area and Sprint. Because of this, Alltel customers have GREAT coverage.

They are being taken private. It will no longer be a public company. But you will not notice the change, unless you own the stock.
