MOL3 is a software update for the Motorola Q. The Alltel Q comes with MOL2 out of the box. Verizon has had the MOL3 update for a long time and Sprint just released MOL3 about 2 weeks ago.
EvDO stands for EVolution Data Optimized. It is a high speed data technology. Alltel runs three different data technologys. QNC (14.4kbps), 1xRTT (144kbps) and EvDO (2.4Mbps). Alltel hasn't rolled Ev out in all markets yet but is expanding rapidly.
PRL stands for Prefered Roaming List. This is just a list of rules that tells the phone what cell towers to use in diferent regins. Cell providers negotiate rates with diferent providers and want to make sure your cellphone roams on the provider that they negotiated the lowest rate with. The PRLs have version numbers. To update the PRL on your phone you just dial *ACT (*228) then send. PRLs can also be pushed automatically OTA (Over the air) from time to time. Alltel pushs special PRLs so some of their devices. For instance the Treo 700wx and all of the data cards have PRL version 40020 which allows those devices to roam on Sprints EvDO network where Alltel doesn't have EvDO. Unfortunately Alltel isn't giving the Q access to PRL 40020 so we only get EvDO in Alltel's native EvDO markets. There is a way to manually upload any PRL version you wish to the Q. So I have loaded PRL 40007 to my Q which gives me Sprint Ev roaming.
To check your PRL version just dial ### send on the Q. The current PRL for Q's is 30008.
