Default Alltel Buyout

Will this affect past phones new phones. I have my Q coming in the mail as we speak.... Is there any chance that Alltel will change things and force a change in phones? If so I could return my Q and get the correct one. I know this is kind of a shot in the dark since it took place today.... but does anyone have any ideas?

Default Who Knows?

Who really knows? However, given that they basically just went private, I doubt too much will change. If you're worried they'll do something weird and switch to GSM or something, that would be crazy. It's not like when Cingular bought AT&T and dropped support for the 900 MHz band (or whatever).

What I might be more worried about is whether they'll slow any build-out plans. If your area doesn't have EV-DO, for example, but you were supposed to get it soon, maybe that will change.

But again, who knows? Your best bet would be to call Alltel, but even they might not know how it will affect them yet.

I don't know about that. I'm with Verizon, not Alltel, but it seemed like reasonable, general advice.

u dont have to worry. the buyout was not by another cell company it was but 2 investment firms. so its really like a big investment than a buyout. it basically gives alltel more buying power for growth like the new fcc frequency that is being auctioned off and buying other companies plus the growth of the evdo network. which is good for the data network cause alltel's data is not just smartphones and data kits. ur safe if anything it will be better cause the company that bought alltel really has not interest in the cell phone industry as far as taking over and running a company. well thats what they say anyway. im not complaining im getting a bigger paycheck out of it

First off I work for Alltel as a WirelessConsualtant, and to go into a little more detail on what TechDaddy posted. Yes, this is SWEET news that we got bought out. This is going to mean BIG things to come with Alltel. We are going to be bidding on the 700MHz band in early 2008(i think its january). What this means in a nut shell. The 700MHz was the Free TV stations you USED to get when you just pluged the cable into the wall for your TV. Well If Alltel is able to buy this that means we are going to have prolly the best covrage EVER! I say that confidently because Winmax is going to be in this as well and a tower with 700MHz can be reach 45 MILES in a 360 for cellphone signal!!! I MEAN HOLLY CRAP PEOPLE! Now I know some of you people out there are saying Hold on where are you getting some of this info, Well Google it, google 700MHz and Winmax! So as one of my favorite people say "buisness is about to pick up".

Well, i'm not holding my breath. i cant even get alltel to use a tower 5 blocks away from me. Constant dropped calls and no fix from tech support. request to use the new tower in town was completely ignored. no response at all. maybe w/ buy out they will stop ignoring my service requests? doubt it.

I work in network operations group.. Can you give me nearest cross-intersection of the tower and city/state so I can look it up in database to see if this is actually the ALLTEL tower. If it is and you are getting dropped calls, it quite possible there is issue at the cell site (ie, transport, sleeping cell, etc..)

Send me your mobile # in question via PM and I will try to assist you on that.

Richard

Not sure how to PM on this forum. I appreciate your response and willingness to help. I live in Sisseton South Dakota. The tower in question is a Unicell tower brought online in Jan. of this year. It is on top of the water tower in the center of town a few blocks from the courthouse. The question no one at tech suppt. or cust. service can answer is when or if there will be an agreement with Unicell to use this tower. Most of the town is in a valley and in a dead zone. All Alltel subscribers in town have the same problem as I do. Go on top of the hill, BAM full bar signal. Drop into the valley, BOOM one bar at best. Frustrating to have a tower 5 blocks away but phone doesnt recognize it. Every once in a while the Alltel signal gets too weak and my phone will enter roaming mode and pull from the water tower and presto, full bar signal even in the basement!! It seams so simple to me, just ink a deal with Unicell and start using the new tower. WHat is the holdup? If Alltel wont use this new tower, then i want out of my contract as i'm dropping calls and not getting the service i'm paying for. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for not ignoring me like everyone else at Alltel has done thus far.

I would expect a "Wireless Consultant" to know that the technology is called WiMax (or WiMAX, but not Winmax).

Of course, maybe "wireless consultant" doesn't mean what I assumed (a person who consults with wireless companies about strategic issues); maybe it's just a fancy name for a phone salesperson or customer service rep.

Anyway, the important thing is to get the terminology right.
