Default Horrible Voice Recognition

I'm experiencing absolutely horrible voice recognition, to the point where it's almost not working at all. Doesn't even understand "Yes" while speaking directly into the phone, so it can't be a headset problem.

Girlfriend has a Razr and it works perfectly with or without a headset, and my old motorola v710 worked great too, so I'm a bit shocked and confused how voice recognition works so horribly in a Motorola Q smartphone but worked great on the horrible v710.

Any suggestions? It's even hit-n-miss when gf tries it and she has perfect dictation. Can it be trained?

I'm not sure how the Q has been out for years and this hasn't been fixed yet, seems every crappy phone out has voice recognition now days, doesn't seem to be a complicated or high-tech feature that you'd expect to have problems with.
