I'm not sure how to make the storage card the default, but with WMP11 on the pc, you can choose different devices in the sync section. There should be a little arrow in the sync field under the pic of the phone, which allows you to see the other possible sync locations.
If you can't see it, you might have to choose setup in the active sync program to allow it to detect it.
