Default Solution in 14 easy steps (but no new phone)

I spent a day figuring this out, but didn't have to talk to any techs at Verizon OR get a new phone! So to sum up the steps by which I fixed my phone, I'll point to the threads where I found the help I needed.

Big super helpful directions here, thanks to Q estion:

However, when I did the ## code to get the NAM menu, it didn't work; I just got another busy signal. So then I found this list of hidden menu codes:

I started trying random codes from this list, and some worked. Then they didn't, and some that had worked didn't anymore. So I tried the NAM menu code again, and guess what? A menu popped up! No busy signal. Then I went back to the directions from Q estion, and all went well! My phone works now, no new problems!

Good luck!
