applejosh and mobilerob are correct, the photo is embedded into the contact record itself. That way, even if you delete the original file, the contact photo is still there. However, if you edit the contact, it also has the location of the original file stored, so if you make any changes to that contact, it may go looking for that file to "re-embed" it into the newly changed contact. If that file has been moved or deleted, it could possibly lose the photo. I've had this happen, but not consistently, so I'm not sure what changes made to the contact make it go out and look for the original photo file and which changes leave the photo alone. |
