Waldo, I am in the same situation and I am working on it! I am a 24+ year Cantel, then AT&T, now Rogers client and I too am switching to the Motorola Q or a related version. I was about to buy one from Bell or Telus and then I came across an excellent discussion paper on the difference between CDMA and GSM. Good job! I can not use CDMA as I travel outside of Canada and I need the GSM. I am surprised that there is no notice on the Telus or Bell sites that they use CDMA and it is only good in North America.

I have found the Motorola Q in the GSM format and at the moment I am looking where to get one, that is a real one that works, not one that someone has tried to unlock and won't be accepted by Rogers. Our Roger's store here is really good - I would never deal on-line with them for a phone - they are terrible there!!!! I am sure now that once I find the phone I can switch my SIM card from my existing Motorola. Not sure yet if it has to be unlocked if my SIM card is already a Roger's SIM card - I suspect not.

I also read a lot about the variations in unlocking the phone. There are some good references and some that are not so good. If interested I can post the links that I have found that are useful.

LASTLY ...... I am looking for the Q! specifically to run a GPS program in Europe at the same time and so I have read that the new MOTO Q 9h may be a much better piece of equipment. As far as I see, it is not yet on the market here in Canada. It is GSM and so MAYBE it will be picked up by Rogers. It sounds as if it is worth the wait.
