Mine was fixed by holding in the scroll wheel on the side til the menu popped up and I rolled the earpiece volume up... not sure how it got down but there are places you can be with the phone where any roll of the wheel turns it down.
Its plenty loud, use it all the time as an alarm clock while travelling.
