Hey all!
I've been lurking here a while and have recently (3 months) acquired a Q9h (Global) on the AT&T Network.
I did a search for alarm tone settings and email alert settings but was unable to find anything along the lines of my problem. So, if this has been posted before, you can delete this post. Otherwise, read on to find out how to change your alarm sound and email alert sounds with a few small steps in the Registry.
The past few days I have been trying to change the Alarm sound and Email Alert sounds (firetruck siren for alarm and the classic "you've got mail" AOL sound for Email).
I can get my MP3 ringtones to work no problem as I make them myself and keep them below the 299kb limit (which has recently been removed due to my findings here =) ).
My problem was with changing the Alarm sound and Email alert sound. . .
I couldnt' get my audio files to show up in the list of tones no matter where I put them. I tried:
\\Windows
My Documents\Ringtones
\Ringtones
Nothing seemed to work. .
UNTIL TODAY!
Browsing around in PHM I found:
HKCU\Control Panel\Sounds hit Values. . .
This brings up:
Allsounds
Ringtones
Inside each of those is a list of available tones. I copied each of my tones that I wanted to use into the
\\Windows folder and added youvegotmail.mid and Wail-Siren.wav to the bottom of the list in each of those Values.
Hit done and went back to Settings > Sounds and I was able to select them from the drop down list now!
I tested it out. .
Set the alarm to go off on the next minute and. . . . . WWEEEEEOOEOOOOOOOOO O WWWWEEEEEEOEOOOOOOOOOO!
My firetruck siren went off!
My next test. . . email notification. . .
I came here to post my findings and hit the forgot username/password button. . . . . I put in my email address and. . . . .
"you've got mail!" I did it!
The list in those Values only has room for approx 20? different sounds, but I figure you could go into them and remove the lines of the ones you don't use or won't be using and add your own until you had every sound you ever wanted.
Anywho, I'm gonna go play around some more and find me some more sounds.
Thanks for all the information I found here and hopefully if anyone else has this problem, this will help them out.
