It sucks that you got a crappy unit. I've been using and abusing my Q for quite a while now, and I have had very few problems.
It does seem that quite a few people end up with a bad Q, which might be part of the reason that Moto's proffits are in the toilet, inspite of them having some of the most popular phones *shrugs*
I would deffinantly take the advice of everyone else and contact the carrier to get a new one. I hope that having a phone that works will make you see how great the Q really is. I don't think I'd give mine up for anything, except a newer model Q.
