You can save a lot of money on great Verizon coverage and use any Verizon phone, including the Qs, on a number of MVNOs. Verizon INpulse phones from Walmart and Best Buy also work. No contract required. No taxes:
Page Plus Cellular:
This is what I have my Q on and get QNC, free (but slow) Internet. Opera Mini works great on it tho. Email too. This is the best bargain in prepaid. About 8c/min on average. Data service coming this year.

Airvoice Express:
Similar to Page Plus but they have a $50 PIN which lasts for a year. Roaming is twice as much as Page Plus tho, 94c/min. A great "granny phone". I don't know if QNC works. Probably. About 8c/min on average.

Shout:
Another prepaid. The advantage of Shout is you get free roaming. But because of the 1min/day fee, the cost is higher. About 10c-15c/min.
