Motorola has been building up their Android Development Team, but not comes information regarding an upcoming Social Networking Smart Phone. According to a job posting at Coroflot, the company is recruiting a Senior Staff Interaction Designer for "a new Android Social Networking SmartPhone".

The ad sites a need for specific skills:

As a Senior Staff Interaction Designer, you will be responsible for leading and actively participating in the concept, design, documentation and development of user interfaces for our mobile products including our new Android Social Networking SmartPhone. You’ll lead brainstorming and work sessions, usability and innovation reviews and other forums of design development. In addition to your primary responsibility in the delivery of great design, you will also be expected to mentor other designers, bringing your personal strengths to the rest of the team.

Once again, more signs that Moto is pushing more resources into Android and well they should. Certainly Motorola hardware coupled with Android software could be quite a nice match.

The Moto Q11 has been making the rounds this week with it's release in Brazil and now showing up on Motorola's site. It won't hit the states officially until December of this year, but we'd thought it'd be fun to see how the new Q compares size wise to the iPhone and the Moto Q9h Global. The Moto Q11 appears to be smaller from all angles, which I'm guessing should be more noticeable during an actual hands-on. When Palm made slight changes to it's Treo smartphone, photos just didn't do justice to what appeared to be small changes. You can discuss the newest smartphone from Motorola in our Moto Q11 forum.

Motorola today released the specifications for the Motorola Q11, along with news that the company expects the Moto Q11 to be released in the US in December of this year. Many have bemoaned the omission of 3G, but it appears Motorola is aiming to deliver an nice mix of features at an attractive price point. A recent report said that the average price of smartphones released in the US is $176. Apple's move to reduce the price of the iPhone 3G to $199 has put pressure on vendors to be more aggressive when it comes to pricing their phones. Of course, the devil is in the details with the iPhone 3G, as the overall cost of ownership is higher than the first generation iPhone. Palm has seen great success with their $99 Palm Centro and perhaps that is what Motorola has in mind. On their site, Motorola describes the Motorola Q 11 as:  For mobile professionals and consumers who want a fully featured smartphone complete with a QWERTY keypad for fast messaging, easy access to email, location services and multimedia applications, the MOTO Q 11 delivers all of this at an affordable price.

Is the lack of 3G a deal breaker or do you think a WiFi/GPS enabled Moto Q 11 would be attractive at the right price?  Let us know in the comments.

We knew the Motorola Q11 was going to be released in Brazil, but now comes word it will come as soon as tomorrow. ZumoBlog is reporting that the Motorola Q11 will release tomorrow in Brazil on Vivo and Claro. Outside of the lack of 3G (big miss), the specficiations are impressive (WiFi and GPS). Impressive enough to jump from 9 to 11, we're not so sure. The unlocked price is a whopping $899 US. No word yet if this will make it's way to the US.

The Motorola Q11 appears to be close to release, well at least in Brazil. The rumored specifications are surprising to say the least, with the Q11 offering quad-band EDGE and no 3G. We have certainly seen different variants of the Motorola Q  series, so it's entirely possible that a 3G version of the Motorola Q11 lands on our shores, if it is indeed slated for a US release.

Other specifications of the Motorola Q11 include: stereo Bluetooth, WiFi, miniSD expansion, a 2.5mm headphone jack, and a 3-megapixel camera with flash. In Brazil, it's expected the Q11 will find it's way to ClubeCelular.

Adobe Photoshop.com Mobile is scheduled to be released in beta by the end of September. Not available as of today, the application will allow users to upload, view and share photos online from your phone. As of now, the Moto Q 9h and Moto Q 9m are supported. Surprising, the Moto Q9c is not listed among compatible phones.

A data plan is necessary, as you view your photos and albums from Photoshop.com. Adobe Photoshop.com Mobile is available as a free download, but does require an Adobe account which is also free.

Up until now, Motorola and the Q series have been developed on the Windows Mobile Standard platform, but the company appears to have their sights set on Android.

The company has expanded their Android development team from 50 to 350. Motorola has been part of Google's Open Handset Alliance, but perhaps there is a renewed faith in the Android OS after last week's successful T-Mobile G1 launch. Reports that Verizon representatives were seen at a recent Android developer conference could also be seen as a reason for manufacturers such as Motorola to get in the game. Google's Android Market is a play on Apple's very successful iPhone App Store, but without the conviluted approval process set up by Apple. Right now, developers are cashing in on the success of the App Store, so it's not clear how many will jump to Android. While Android is completely open, developers have greater support challenges given the amount of handsets expected in the marketplace. Motorola's staff expansion is a clear indication they are working on a handset for Android.

Photos of what appears to be the Motorola Q11 surfaced yesterday courtesy of our friends at Mobility Today. The Moto Q11 appeared in the Bluetooth SIG product just a few weeks ago when there was speculation that it might be the rumored Moto Q codenamed Alexander. From the photos, the Moto Q 11 appears to be more of a variant of the Q9 series, but with some specification upgrades. The Moto Q appears to have GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, Windows Mobile 6.1 and a 3 megapixel camera. No word on yet on the processor.

You can discuss the Moto Q 11 in the future Motorola Q smartphones section of our forums.

Motorola has released the Windows Mobile 6.1 update for the Verizon Motorola Q 9c. Existing Verizon Moto Q 9c owners can find the update at Motorola. Windows Mobile 6.1 offers a host of improvements, most notably sliding panels that now grace the home screen and threaded SMS.

The Sliding Panel plug-in offers quick, at-a-glance information of the clock, notifications (including voice mail, missed calls and text messages), e-mail, appointments, music and, optionally, Windows Live for Windows Mobile. In addition, once the Start menu button is pressed, people will notice it is now reordered to display the most recently used programs and applications at the top, enabling quicker access.

Readers are encouraged to back up their data before taking the 6.1 plunge. You can discuss the Verizon Motorola Q 9c Windows Mobile 6.1 update in our forums.

A listing for the Moto Q11 has shown up in the Bluetooth SIG product directory . The listing is described as a "Phone, Handheld" running Windows Mobile 6.1. The question is whether this is the Motorola Napoleon or Alexander that have been rumored. As Engadget appropriately points out, we've jumped from the Moto Q9 to the Moto Q11.
